For those who have ever thought about it, let me know what you think.

A Live One is still one of my favorites. Probably because it defines a time in my life: college & then newly married, pre-kids. I don't listen to Phish all that much anymore, but I have a few good friends that remind me of it once in a while. I just listened to second set of their opening day in Mexico from a few nights ago based on her recommendation and it was terrific. No, it isn't Jerry and band. It never will be. Just like JRAD & DSO will never be. But it is music that moves the soul in a similar way. Ranking wise, it is below GD & JGB... and I don't care. I still listen to ABB, WSP, and the rest of my music. Sometimes you need Cream, sometimes you need Stones. Hell, throw in some Maiden, Waylon and Biggie for me. It's whatever get's your rocks off at the time. Bring on some Weekapaug Groove and Mike's Song. Great write up Bigriver.

Wineland, you are right, Mexico was magic this year. “Music that moves the soul in a similar way.” Well said. Whatever lets us step outside of ourselves and plug into the space-time continuum. Sometimes “Louie Louie” does it for me!

Nice post . I admire them (Phish) more than I love them . I never got on the bus with them . I think they are great for what they are, and I would rather listen to them than a lot of music from their time . I have a good selection of their shows, but I feel about them about the way I feel about "Phil & Friends (the stuff that Trey, etc., have done with him are among the best shows he has done) . If I put my Zappa hat on, I enjoy them quit a bit . They are always more together than the Dead . But I find their music (most of the time) cool, or cold to me . What they, and just about everyone playing, lacks is Garcia's soul . But I can't see why one can't enjoy them both .
It is one thing for Dead Heads to bag on them, but what makes me want to defend them is the unbelievable hostility to them by so many . I smell the same disdain that the mainstream had (have) for the Grateful Dead .

Good points Dudley Dead, thank you. As you know, I think both bands are highly compatible. I like your Zappa reference and wish I had thought of it while writing the post! For soul, check out Phish playing “Light,” “Divided Sky” or “Sand.” Those songs lift you up. And the “China/Rider” sequence in the 12/30/18 performance of “Tweezer” would have Jerry nodding.

Dudley Dead, correction, that version of Tweezer with the China/Rider-inspired passage is from 12-29, not 12-30.

Do you want a ton of Phish bootlegs? Mrs Wine uncovered and had me empty a clutch of CDs from a steamer trunk that sat unnoticed in a corner for years and years. For that matter does anyone want any GD and JGB?

my hard drives crapped out awhile back. I'll take some GD/JGB if I don't already have them

WEEN is the only band other than the Dead that can take me to magical places. Their sense of independence, clear love of all things music, eclectic crazy obsessed fans, etc. puts them on a par closer to the Dead than an other band for me.

Your description of Ween sounds like Phish. I’ll check em out.

Trust JOTS with Ween. They are a great force. Hit them up on the Archive too.
